One of my buddies called Saturday afternoon and invited me over to watch the Mike Tyson fight.
"You are kidding me, " I replied.
Someone actually was inviting people over to watch Mike Tyson fight some dude named Kevin McGride?
I quickly declined and made fun of him.
Well. Laila Ali is on the card also he blurted out.
Are we finished with Mike Tyson? The guy has been a shell for nearly 10 years. He lost his third fight in the last four in embarrassing fashion again when he tried to break McGride's arm, and then head butted him and finally sat in the corner prior to the seventh round "feeling like a 120 year-old man.
I used to watch every Tyson fight because he brought excitement and passion to the ring. Even in his later years people watched because they love to watch the train wreck. You never knew what ear he was going to bite off.
But even train wrecks get old. I am glad I did not watch the final Tyson chapter.
And I need to call my pal to see how many people actually showed up for the Tyson viewing.
Or were they there to see Laila Ali?

Right on, the mike Tyson freak show is as far from good boxing as you can get.

I don't understand why people continue to watch his fights. Frankly, it is a sad sorry of another promising and gifted individual that made stupid mistakes and allowed people around him to screw him.

It' ashamed as to how boxing seems to be more ane more irrelevant. I'm setting here and trying to recall who the heavy weight champion is..... I don't know.

It seems the only boxing worth watching anymore are the classic fights that turn up on television. It IS a shame what has happened to a sport that used to be so exciting. There are like 3 dudes who have the heavyweight title now - it used to actually mean something. Tyson is so far gone that I don't even consider him a real fighter - but yet you can't call him comic relief because he isn't even funny. Just sad.

It's the train wreck phenomenon - people can't stop watching something that is truly human in an ugly pathetic way.

it's like there is something in all of us that's craves attention and we're so afraid to show it because it might look like Tyson.

purists will say he's screwing up the sport, but the freak show is far more attractive to some viewers.

it says as much about the viewers as the man.

does anyone give him credit for trying? what would have to be different for him to get respect, or did that ship sail long ago?

right way.
I think the heavy weight champion is Darren McCarty.
Oh wait. Check that. He is on strike and he is the former middleweight champion.
But I get your point. The heavyweight class is a joke along with most of boxing.

I guess I will give Tyson some tiny amount of credit for trying. But people wasted their money on him. It is not like us trying something and no one loses. People have gotten bilked out of millions because of Tyson.
The most damning thing is not that he returned and failed. But Tyson quit. There is nothing quit as low as a quitter in sports.

Some folks will be back. I find it hard to imagine a lot of folks will be back unless he disappears for a couple of years and claims he had found the Lord or something,

Tyson should just be a co-host on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Everytime he is on it is classic TV and he has been on the show more times than almost anyone, at least top 10 as far as 'most appearances' are concerned.

He is a fun and entertaining personality, he just isn't a good boxer anymore. Though I would still bet on him in a street fight.

unfortunately Tyson does know his boxing especially from a historical aspect. He tends to butcher the english the language much like Don King but he can be deep at times. Folks like to say Don king ruined him but damn Don king did raise about 200 million for Tyson I will take that anytime anyday. I think Tyson should do television folks would watch. What I meant by another tyson, I am totally convinced that if a another heavyweight comes out the way tyson did the sport would make a revival.

You know something I heard something which might explain tyson. He is actually betting against himself. Is this something to put past boxing and tyson himself. I hope that this conspiracy theory is totally wrong

Next for Tyson is a talk show with Tyson, Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson, and Dennis Rodman, discussing and sharing their opinions on current events....
